Ever find yourself looking at your hair and it just looks like… blah? When I neglect my curls I notice that they begin to look lifeless, dry, and dull. Sometimes you need to add a little umph to your strands so that you can look and feel your best. I am going to share with you one of my favorite deep treatments that you can make with ingredients right from your kitchen. I typically do not measure things (like oils) when it comes to my hair, but I was able to make measurements for this treatment and it worked wonderfully for my hair type and length. Feel free to eyeball the oils based off what you think your hair needs or use these measurements.
What you will need:
- 1 Avocado
- 1 Banana
- 1/4 Cup Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
- 2 Tablespoons Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 Tablespoon Castor Oil
- 1 Tablespoon Organic Honey
- Blender
- Plastic Shower Cap or Grocery Bag
- Hooded Dryer (optional)
I personally do not like eating ripe fruit, so I love being able to use an over ripe banana and avocado that have been sitting on my counter instead of wasting them.
Combine all of the ingredients in your blender and blend until it is super smooth. Divide your hair into sections (I prefer two) and apply the deep treatment to your dry hair. Make sure you coat every strand. Once you have finished, pin your hair up and cover it with a plastic shower cap or grocery bag (desperate times call for desperate measures). Keep the deep treatment in for at least one hour or you can sit under a hooded dryer for about 15 minutes. Next, I rinse out the deep treatment and cleanse, condition and style my hair as usual. This deep treatment always leaves my hair super moisturized, shiny, bouncy and full of life. You can easily add a raw egg to this deep treatment for extra protein. I don’t because my hair is protein sensitive. If you use an egg, make sure you rinse the deep treatment out with cool water. Getting scrambled eggs out of your wet hair is no easy feat. Please learn from my mistakes. I try to do this deep treatment every two weeks and it always helps my curls snap back.
Before (left): My hair is dry, frizzy and lacking moisture.
After (right): My curls are uniform, defined, shiny and well moisturized. This is my hair right after I deep conditioned and diffused it. I prefer big hair so I typically pick it out.
Day Three (bottom middle): My curls are still very defined and moisturized.
*Remember, this is what works for me. It may or may not work for you, but you won’t know until you try.
