Let me be honest with you guys… I used to be a product junkie. Hair Product Collector is the title I preferred. If you could name it, I had most likely tried it. I felt the need to try almost any curly hair product out there, from a three dollar styling agent to a $40 conditioner. Conditioners. That was (and still is) my weakness… Oh and don’t let the product have nice packaging, all natural ingredients, or smell like a tropical oasis. It would be thrown in the cart without a second thought.
One day, I looked under my bathroom sink and noticed that I had a legit product land field inside. There sat a majority of the products that I JUST HAD to have, but later realized did nothing for my curls. After a few PJA (Product Junkie Anonymous) meetings, I can proudly say I am a reformed product junkie and I have been clean for a year and a half. After trying many different products and brands I realized that I always go back to the same products and they never seem to disappoint. I would like to share with you my Holy Grail, go-to products.
- Kinky-Curly Knot Today Leave In Conditioner/Detangler $11.99 at Target- This conditioning detangler has been my all time favorite product for years. It makes detangling a breeze and the slip is amazing. I not only use this product to detangle my curls but I also use it as my only styling agent most days (Wash and Go style). It is so moisturizing and provides great curl definition!
- Camille Rose Coconut Water Leave In Detangler $13.99 at Target- This leave-in detangler smells like it was made in Heaven. I just recently tried this detangler and it is giving Knot Today a run for its money. Detangling is super easy and it also doubles as a great styling agent. Did I mention it smells divine?!
- Shea Moisture JBCO Strengthen, Grow & Restore Treatment Masque $11.99 at Target- I was not won over by the smell of this hair masque (quite frankly it smells like Play-doh) but because of the Jamaican Black Castor Oil that’s inside. This is my go-to deep treatment whenever I don’t have the ingredients to make my own. I love it because it always leaves my hair rejuvenated, soft, and super moisturized.
- DevaCurl No-Poo Decadence Zero Lather Ultra Moisturizing Milk Cleanser $22.00 at Ulta- For those days that I want a fresh start for my Wash and Go. It gently cleanses without stripping away the natural oils my curls need. Being that I don’t “shampoo” my hair this cleanser lasts me a while, so I don’t get too upset at the price. (On sale now for $17.99 here)
- TRESemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner $6.39 at Amazon- How can I simply put this… Amazing slip for detangling, super inexpensive, easily accessible (always at Wal-mart or Target). Point. Blank. Period.
- Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner $2.97 at Wal-Mart- This conditioner is so moisturizing and so cheap. It is seriously only three bucks and it works better than some pricey deep conditioners I’m ashamed to say I coughed up the money for (conditioner is my kryptonite remember, don’t judge).
- DevaCurl SuperCream Coconut Curl Styler $28 at Ulta- Ok ok, yes I know it’s pricey. I fell for the hype of this product, but boy am I glad. Typically, I’m the “I just use conditioner to style my Wash and Go” type of girl. But when I want my curls to be extra defined I grab this product. It gives each curl a purpose and the smell transports you to a tropical island.
- Dr. Bronner’s Lavender Pure-Castile Liquid Soap $10.79 at Target- This cleanser is seriously the best ever because it can be used to clean so many things- hair, body, make-up brushes, Fido, fruit, and the list goes on. I use this when I need to clarify my hair. Since you dilute this product it will last you a while.
- Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner $6.29 at Target- I have used this conditioner for years and it has never failed me. It gives my curls extra moisture and great shine.
- 100% Pure Organic Jojoba Oil $8.14 at Amazon- Jojoba oil is great for adding moisture, softness, elasticity, and shine to your hair. I use this when I deep condition or after I have styled my hair.
- 100% Organic Virgin Unrefined Coconut Oil $8.04 at Wal-Mart (Trader Joe’s for $6)- Coconut oil is the Beyoncé of the oil variety (I am not a huge Bey fan but let’s face it, she is Queen Bee)… It helps to prevent split ends and breakage, stimulates hair growth, provides moisture, and reduces protein loss. I will often cover my hair in coconut oil, throw it up in a bun, and go about my day while deep conditioning.
